Updated damage statistics show 52 platforms lost to Ike

The U.S. Minerals Management Service(MMS) has updated its damage statistics from Hurricane Ike. MMS now estimates that 52 oil and gas production platforms, three jackups and one platform drilling rig in the Gulf of Mexico were destroyed by Hurricane Ike.

Crane Accident onbard J-Lay Vessel S7000

An accident occurred aboard semisubmersible crane and pipelay vessel Saipem 7000 on Sept. 17, killing three people, wounding four others, with one more person missing. The accident occurred during the operations for the laying of the MEDGAZ trans-Mediterranean pipeline in international waters between Algeria and Spain. Saipem is currently investigating the causes of the accident.
